Rich DeVos was once fired from the Republican National Committee?
While serving as chairman of the RNC, Richards also had a dispute with finance chairman Rich DeVos, who was an Amway distributor and used Amway tactics in his political fund-raising. Donors signed a petition presented to Richards, complaining that "they were being treated like Amway distributors."
After "Pat Boone made a speech pitching Amway" at a fund-raising event in California, Richards told DeVos point blank that Amway tactics were off-limits.
DeVos contacted his congressman, Guy Vander Jagt, who called Reagan's chief of staff, James Baker, to ask for a face-to-face meeting with the president. Baker called Richards for background, and the two agreed that DeVos had no case, and Richards fired him.
