I just finally got around to renewing... Heres the deal. quite simply. I've been involved as an Ibo for about 3 years now... really haven't made anything, really haven't tried. well, I guess thats an innacurate statement. I've tried without success. but it was limited effort. Heres what Anyone who is curious about the business offer needs to know, From someone who went from, *HOLY HELL* enthusiasm, to Damn, I dont care, to Need to maintain..

It is ABSOLUTELY not for everyone, as a matter of fact, due to the systems well intended good nature, they wont even tell you the real thing that you need to get through... You gotta be A Straight up Hustler and nothing but Money minded. Meaning, Someone who doesn't understand why a gang banger would shoot someone over 500 dollars, probably wouldn't do too well in this business.

Before, I had the dream, the dream of my life ahead and so on and so fourth, (which as someone mentioned earlier is rather cult like, no doubt I've been to alot of functions and they're right, but One must understand that they're really just very happy people, with good intentions, hear what you need to hear and take it home and work it, no need to get scared... f***in p****s..)but i did not have that MONEY drive.. Meaning I just wanted a good life without BS and didn't understand the drive necessary to attain it.

essentially, all ya gotta do is hang out with a Crip and try to sell drugs for a few months (not get caught) and then you'll get it... its just, no Pin carrying IBO will ever tell you that cuz that directly opposes their image... that would be stupidity.

My mom's friend and niece are active members of Amway (IBO's, I think they're called?). I went to lunch with my mom, her friend, and 3 other salespeople, and that was weird. Near the end they kept saying "hopefully you will realize how neat Amway is and will want to join.."

Tonight I went to a seminar or whatever with my mom, and it was plain weird. I couldn't put my finger on it until afterwards when we were walking back to the car. I told my mom that Amway had a sort of cult feel to it. She is kind of interested in it because supposedly her niece is doing well with it, but she isn't convinced herself. Personally, I don't want her joining Amway. It pretty much is a cult. Someone above said they encouraged you to sell your TV in order to travel to their convention; the lady tonight told us to not go to work and to sell whatever we had in our house to afford the trip.

What the fuck?? WEIRD

Amway/Quixtar. Cult and scam. I personally know a family in Clovis Ca that pretends to care and be good Christians. Because of them I have lost faith. Manipulators and liars. Talk about spending money. They purchased a home for their 24 year old daughter that was unable to work or get out of bed. She has every disorder according to her that makes her unable to hold a job. But, she can have parties, date and shop all on mom and dad's dime. The eldest son of the four Children hasn't had a drivers license since 2000. Lives with Mom and dad and has given his childrens mother 3 black eyes. But, no Mommy and Daddy still give him money and look the other way.By the way he is 36. All 4 children that were raised in the "Amway" world seem to think they can do and say anything they wish to anyone they want because they are entitled. Good thing only 50% of their children were molested while the good Christians were away. Think twice if you are considering this business. do you want to raise arrogant assholes as well?

Amway reminds me of U-Haul. When U-Haul was started after WWII, L.S. Shoen started with 1 trailer that he built and rented to someone who wanted to move, as long as that person would return it to one of L.S.'s friends in their destination state. Then L.S.'s friend rented it to someone else who was moving back to Oregon, where L.S. lived. Thus started U-Haul.

Soon after that, the idea was formulated to start renting trucks along with the trailers and L.S. needed more capital, so he started asking business acquaintenances and friends to invest in his idea. Thus began the "Fleet-Owners".

U-Haul paid the Fleet-Owners a percentage of each rental and, with their profits, the Fleet-Owners would keep their vehicles in "Rentable" condition. Then they started buying "General Rental" items, like lawnmowers, Yanmar tractors, banquet and party tents and other lawn and garden tools and equipment. Thus started U-Haul's rental diversification.

U-Haul didn't make all of its money on any 1 item, or rental line, but they made smaller amounts on a lot of lines. This made the up-keep of all of the items difficult.

I have continually said, "It sounds good when you say it; it looks good on paper, but in reality, it isn't going to happen." This is even more true when you have to depend on "people" to make it happen.

U-Haul's reputation began to decline, because the trucks and trailers began to break down in the middle of a move. Even though there was a policy in writing that explained exactly how much service a truck should receive at each 4,000 mile increment, the trucks weren't being serviced correctly.

Just like with Amway, U-Haul had a non-competition clause in each contract an employee signed upon hiring. That didn't keep former employees from starting their own competing company.

After L.S.'s children graduated from Harvard Business School in the late 80's, he started moving them into the 'business'. In 1990, the three brothers and one sister made a successful coup and kicked L.S. out of the business and barred him from entering the company headquarters in Phoenix, AZ.

Then they began to dismantle the business, as L.S. had set it up, by making it extremely difficult for the Fleet-Owners to do business. The 'new' U-Haul owners bought new equipment and put out mandates to "not rent equipment owned by the Fleet-Owners" which, in effect, caused the Fleet-Owners, who were loyal to L.S., to retire or resign. Nearly everyone who had tenure with the company was relieved of duty within the following years.

Contrary to the way Amway operates, U-Haul would hire new employees at a fraction of the salary the previous employes made. Most of the training they received was on-the-job from someone who had received no formal training themselves. The turn-over was prolific and the product knowledge was almost non-existent. With Amway, everyone has an unlimited supply of imformation about the products and the business.

However, just like with Amway, the quality of U-Haul's products was off-set by the 'Walmart Mentality" of its customers. They refused to pay for quality and service. They would rather pay a medium price two or three times for a cheaper facsimile, than to pay a higher price for a quality item and service. Of course, they still demanded the quality service, even though they refused to pay more to receive it.

Then the "new owners" of U-Haul started to eliminate the periferal rental items and concentrate solely on trucks and trailers. They still have the break-downs and employee turn-overs and employees who aren't knowledgable about support items, but they don't care. They are still #1 and they make enough money on cheap rentals that they don't need to pay for better employees.

Amway has quality items and very good training material, but once again, it comes down to the "people" to make it work. Since very few "people" are willing to admit that the reason they didn't succeed was because of their lack of effort, or something they didn't do, there will always be blogs putting down the big businesses, or successful entrenepreneurs.

When you think of U-haul, you think of moving trucks and trailers. You don't think of lawnmowers, thatchers and party supplies. When you think of Amway, there are quite a few product lines that come to mind; Artistry Cosmetics, Nutrilite and laundry products to name a few.

If Amway would split up their product lines into separate entities, they could concentrate solely on the group of customers that would purchase each product, instead of trying to attract a large group of customers and then divert them to their respective need.

I was invovled in amway twice. Once when I was was 17 and didn't make a dime! the second time, I made about 25% of the money I spent. No profit!

its all bullshit...they are liars and deceivers...they only "care" for you and u r a "family" to them as long as u r a yesman...after the first mistake u dont exist for them, they have already destroyed your life and family and when and if u start healing u realise ehat a fool u were...STAY AWAY!!!

In Response to knows better... there is no such rift between Orrin and Billy Florence. Whoever spread that rumor is obviously not close to either one of these men.

I'm not sure why people sell products that earn such small commissions when you spend the same in advertising to make $1000-$8000 dollar profits.

I was involved with Amway a long time back... They had an excellent training program, lots of books, tapes and CD's to listen to. Unfortunately I wasn't very successful at the time, but I still enjoyed the meetings and conferences!

My partner and friends at the time didn't support me in Amway and I think I annoyed some of my friends that I pestered, but they have forgiven me now.

I now make my money online through blogs, mlm, attraction marketing, niche marketing and affiliate marketing and I must say, I love working from home!

I've been told by someone who should be in a position to know that there's been a major falling out between Orrin Woodward and Billy Florence. Know anything about that?

Can anyone tell me where all the INA diamonds went to from the 90's ( floor broome lovett cuccia vanni ).....those guys don't come up anywhere on google...I was curious ...thanks. I was in the rocklin,ca. area.

Anways comp plan is a relic of the past. This would be the one reason why I wouldn't join Amway.

I wonder, does Amway give distributors, who order $100 of product a month, a 20% discount and free shipping and handling on there order ?

As a son of former Amway distributors, I don't have many nice things to say about Amway. My parents achieved the Emerald pin level and got out in the 80s after they decided they couldn't be apart of the organization anymore.

The regional Amway functions were creepy to say the least - and this was in the eyes of a 6-12 year old kid. There was a heavy southern-fried televangelist aspect to it all that bordered on brainwashing. I remember my Dad's upline telling him to tell his distributors to sell their TV's so that they could attend the next Amway function. Stay away. My dad is a natural salesman so he did well without having to resort to phoniness but unless you find the above normal and are a good salesperson, don't bother with Amway.

Also, unless you are a die-hard Republican, don't join Amway. The founders are huge, unabashed GOP activists. Remember the Blackwater thing with Iraq? The mercenaries that were caught time and time again killing Iraqis for sport and got let off? Eric Prince is the founder and is part of the De Vos family, who founded Amway. Here is a relevant article: http://thehill.com/josh-marshall/princes-politics-2007-10-05.html. So again, if that kind of thing doesn't sit well with you, don't join Amway...and on a side note: If it does sit well with you, you're scum, plain and simple.

However, the products are actually quite good...just expensive.

Maybe because so few people actually make any money from quixtar and because the (bad)reputation has so saturated the US and Canada that you can't even find people to STP to, much less actually get people to register.

Thought I would get the party started here...

I see a lot of defense of the Quixtar business...if nothing else compares to it, then why hasn't it grown in North America over the last 5 years?

Direct Sales in the U.S. has doubled from 1996 to 2006.

Quixtar has stagnated around $1 Billion, no argument here about the magnitude of $1 Billion in sales, but there is ZERO growth. Why?
