Franchise players strutting their stuff

"The health and wellness field is booming," says Laurie Anderson Finnegan, independent consultant with Swiss company Arbonne International.

"People are interested in products that have all the healthy ingredients in them but actually work too.

"Since 1980, Arbonne has produced everything from skin care to food items.

Customers come, Finnegan says, because the company uses only the "finest herbs and botanicals," and because of the personal connection, too.

Arbonne operates through home-based businesses.

"For customers, they have that relationship with individuals they know they can count on and they can trust — to be able to have your own one-on-one consultant who can help with all your skin care, health and nutritional needs," says Finnegan, a former TV reporter.

Start-up costs are low, from $29 US to a few hundred dollars, one attraction to prospective consultants. Flexibility is another. "That’s very attractive for, especially, moms who are interested being around for their kids but also have the desire to have a career at the same time," she says."

Home alone? Not necessarily

While home-based businesses might be a solitary venture, socializing can provide some of the glue that holds the operation together, said Sharon Holbert, executive area director of Arbonne International, which is a California company selling skin-care and anti-aging products via more than 500,000 home-based consultants.

"Networking is important to the growth of my business," said Holbert, who makes sales in Louisville, surrounding areas and across the country. "I belong to a Business Network Interna­tional group, and I'm looking for other business groups to join as well."

She started working for Arbonne two years ago to supplement her family's income. And she has found that she's "out and meeting more people than I have in years, honestly, because I'm constantly getting referrals from others.

"So I don't find working out of my home isolating at all."

Arbonne Open New Greenwood Distribution Center

Arbonne International, an Irvine, California-based company developing and distributing premium Swiss-formulated skin care products, is opening a state-of-the-art distribution center in Greenwood, IN. This center will serve approximately two-thirds of the United States. As a new Central Indiana employer, Arbonne will be filling 300 warehouse and administrative positions this month. A job fair is slated for May 3-4, from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. at 800 Commerce Parkway Drive West, Suite B, in Greenwood. Additional jobs will be added throughout the year as the facility reaches full capacity.Last week at Arbonne's National Training Conference in St. Louis, attended by more than 17,700 Consultants, Bob Henry, Arbonne Chairman and CEO, announced the centers opening, stating, "In 2005, Arbonne experienced unprecedented growth with a 164% increase in sales." Henry added, "The state-of-the-art Greenwood center will reduce shipping time by days, playing a vital role in our future growth. We are excited to be here and be a part of this community."

Arbonne Creates 300 New Jobs In Greenwood Indiana

A skin-care-product manufacturer will bring 300 new jobs to Greenwood when it opens its second U.S. distribution facility this summer.

Depending on growth, Irvine, Calif.-based-based Arbonne International LLC plans to hire another 100 employees by summer 2007.

The company will receive a $112,000 grant to train employees and $1 million in tax credits for capital investments and employment, said Weston Sedgwick, spokesman for Indiana Economic Development Corp.

Greenwood Mayor Charles Henderson said the facility will create more new jobs than any previous new company in the last 20 years.
