Go Beyond the Hype
In my opinion, the one thing that keeps network marketing from becoming a legitimate business, in the eyes of the other 95%, is the hype. You've seen variations of these; "Make $10,000 a month part time." I made $3,000 my first day!" etc, etc.
Those of us in network marketing know that the claims of extraordinary income are true. But, we also know that they are the exception to the rule. Just like in the corporate world, there are executives at Walmart earning six-figure incomes, but there are also 700,000 Walmart employees at or near minimum wage.
We need to tell our prospects the truth. Network marketing is simple, but it's not easy. You need to get around people and tell the story of your products and your opportunity as many times as possible, every day.
If a prospect is going to join you in your business, three things are essential in your relationship. The prospect has to know you, like you and trust you. If you are a salesman just trying to move products, you might be able to sell to people you don't know. If your prices are the lowest in town, people might buy from you even if they don't like you. But this won't cut it in network marketing.
Network marketing is about relationships. You are not looking for customers, you are looking for business partners. You are looking for people who will be loyal to your products and use them no matter what. You are looking for people who will tell their friends about you, your products and your business opportunity, because now it is their products, and business opportunity as well. Helping them succeed will bring you success.
You are building a network.
To be successful in this business, you will need "people skills."
