USANA Products Win 2 Best of Utah Awards

Teaching children with behavioral issues had become too stressful, Quigg said, and she had grown interested in fashion and the arts. So the Seattle woman, who also has a master's degree in social work from the University of Washington, traded the classroom for the living room.

Today Quigg sells jewelry for Lia Sophia at in-home events, and the 29-year-old is among a growing number of entrepreneurs, most of whom are women, who are involved in direct selling.

"I plan on doing this as a career, especially when I have my own kids," Quigg said.

Whether it's jewelry, beauty products or Tupperware, direct selling has been a part of America's retail scene for years. One of the country's oldest direct sellers is Avon, which began in 1886 as the California Perfume Co. and now has more than 675,000 U.S. sellers.

Direct selling typically is a part-time job and nearly 65 percent of all sales are done in a home, according to the Washington, D.C.-based Direct Selling Association, a trade organization. Another 15 percent of sales are done by phone, and 12 percent are done online. Direct selling also provides flexibility, and it can produce a steady income.

Quixtar Has Sold 10,000 Genetic Tests In Canada

A year ago, one of the industry's major players set up shop in Canada. Quixtar Inc. of Grand Rapids, Mich., has sold 10,000 of its two genetic tests to Canadians since opening up a distributor in London, Ont., says Lise Beland, the company's senior health-product marketer.

Its heart health genetic test, which predicts risk of cardiovascular disease, accounts for 60 per cent of sales and costs about $245 per test. A general nutrition genetic test costs about $135 and recommends vitamins and supplements, which are also sold by Quixtar.

Guaranteed Network Marketing Success

At a recent event with Network Marketing industry trainer, Dani Johnson asked her audience about making a list of 200 people and actually calling all of them about their business...

Transforming MLM:

The lady (Dani) had asked her audience how many of them had made a list of 200 names when they began their business building and actually called all those people?

Approximately 5% of the entire group, 33 people, had done so. Revealing enough as was... and there's more. Of those people...

1. All were making money in network marketing.
2. Nearly half (15 of them) were six-figure income earners.
3. And three of those people had earned a million dollars.

Hans concludes that means if you call your list of 200 names you have:

a 10% chance of earning $1 million.
a 50% chance of earning a six-figure income.

This fun with numbers has (at least) one other interesting facet: Remember that bit about 95% of all the people who come into network marketing are struggling, failing and are destined to quit within the year?

Any correlation with actually talking to people?

There is an obvious correlation between the effort people put into their business and the results in Network Marketing. I would offer that finding the right company is also important.

Hint: The right company is not Quixtar.

Direct Selling Surges In China - Europe Wants to Respond With Reformed Legislation

With direct selling predicted to grow in the run up to 2010, many cosmetic companies such as Swedish based Oriflame and global company Avon make high sales revenue from the European market.

In response to this predicted growth, a meeting took place earlier this month between FEDSA chairman Richard Berry and Mrs Kuneva, European commissioner for consumer affairs to educate the EC on 'the role direct selling plays in strengthening the economies of EU member states'.

Berry highlighted the opinion that current consumer legislation imposes unreasonable restrictions on the significant sector of European trade, that brings in over €19bn in total annual sales, and called for an early reform of the legislation in a new harmonisation directive.

Many direct sales cosmetic companies, such as US business Mary Kay, are beginning to benefit from the recent upsurge in the direct sales trend in China, following the lifting of a ban imposed to halt scam door-to-door sales people.
