CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that they will hold their inaugural 'Pink in the Rink' game at 4:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 11 to benefit Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, Carolina Breast Friends and American Cancer Society.

The Checkers will wear special pink jerseys bearing the logos of the three organizations and there will be a live jersey auction following the game with the proceeds going to the organizations.

"The Checkers are really excited about Pink in the Rink," said Tera Black, Vice President of the Checkers. "In one way or another almost everyone has been touched or affected by women's related cancers."

This "Pink in the Rink" program is impressive. If you can lead the local professional hockey team to support the fight against women's cancers -- and even get them to wear pink jerseys! -- then perhaps you have some insurance that the message is making headway into the community. For today, count me a Charlotte Checkers fan.
