Pre-Paid Legal Service Setting the Standard
In what is becoming a recurring theme, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. (NYSE: PPD) has had an outside entity applaud our approach to fighting frivolous lawsuits. The American Justice Partnership, following the lead set by the Oklahoma State Chamber four years ago, recognized the Ada, Okla.-based company with the "Line in the Sand" award. From its website, the AJP touted us as a company that has "set an example for all businesses that find themselves targeted by predatory trial lawyers." The AJP pointed specifically to the no-settle stance we had taken in class action efforts in Oklahoma, Mississippi and Alabama. Chairman and Chief Executive Harland C. Stonecipher, who founded the Company in 1972, said the recognition stems from "doing the right thing." "There is an unholy alliance between the short selling community and the trial lawyers," Stonecipher commented. "It's sometimes hard to ascertain which comes first -- the short attack or the lawsuits -- but they inevitably work in concert. We recognized the lawsuits for what they were and realized the trial lawyers were looking for a fast settlement. We weren't interested in settling. It was the right thing to do."
I had a legal issue involving a car and a warranty company that did not want to pay to fix the transmission in a used car they covered. I called my Pre-Paid Legal attorney's ofice and set an appointment to speak to a lawyer who deals with these matters. They sent the warranty company a letter and I recieved a check for the amount I had to pay. I have used them numerous times and with great results. So much so I have become an Independent
Pre-Paid Legal Associate. I believe in this service and know it works if you work it. Wouldn't it be nice to tell someone who is messing with you "I'm going to call my lawyer."
