The joy of being a full-time daddy

It’s amazing how time goes by. It feels as if it was yesterday when Natalie was born. This July 8th, she will be one-year old.

I have missed out on about half of her life, because last year I still had a boss, I still had to work 40-50 hours a week, and a lot of times I left the apartment before she woke up. When I got home, I could only spend one or two hours with her, because it was time for her to go to bed.

As of January 20th, however, for the first time in my life I have experienced true freedom. What is true freedom, you ask? This is true freedom: to be able to do whatever you want, whenever you want to do it, with whomever you want to do it. In other words, when you have a source of income that requires very little of your time in order to produce.

Isn’t that what the American Dream is all about? Freedom? Yet most people are slaves to a j.o.b., to credit card debt, etc, etc. And this has them tied to a schedule, a place away from home, and a boss.

It is very satisfying for me to think about the fact that I will never miss out on my daughter’s life. I will take her to school. I will see all her soccer games, or dances, or performances, or whatever it is that she chooses to be a part of... and she will always have her mommy and daddy by her side.

Two weeks ago she took her first steps all by herself. I was sitting right in front of her, and she walked toward me. I will never forget that moment (see the video on my podcast site!). Today I spent most of the day just watching her, playing with her, feeding her... both Selena and I spend our days together, planning what we want to do.
