More than 500 people attended the Taste of Home Cooking School on Thursday at the Riverfront Community Center. Sponsored by Kansas Media One, the event included 10 dishes created by home economists from Taste of Home.
Drew Savage, advertising director for The Leavenworth Times, served as master of ceremonies for the event.
“I thought the event had a warm reception and everyone seemed to have a good time,” Savage said. “We could have had more people if the place was large enough.”Home economists Kristi Larson and Michelle Goggins created a variety of different entrees and side dishes, from warm asparagus-spinach pasta salad to poppy seed lemon scones with lemon curd, flourless chocolate cake, skillet chicken parmesan, classic tuna noodle casserole and vanilla rich chip cake.
More than 40 door prizes from Taste of Home and local sponsors were given away to event participants. Each participant also received a gift bag with Taste of Home magazines, coupons and information from local businesses.
