gNumber Inc. is launching its new mobile-bidding service this week called UnWired Buyer for eBay. UnWired Buyer allows users to bid on eBay listings with a mobile phone (or landline phone) during the critical last minutes of the bidding process. The process uses voice services, but is IPoV, not VoIP (voice over computer, like Skype). The company will present at this week's DEMOFall event.
The process of bidding in the final moments or seconds of an auction is referred to by eBay users as sniping. In fact, gNumber CEO Indy Gill said research shows over 50 percent of bids are placed in the last 5 minutes of an eBay auction. Unlike other last-minute bidding services, UnWired Buyer goes through eBay's API system and is a certified eBay Compatible Application.
The UnWired Buyer service works by placing a phone call to the user to update him or her with critical listing details, such as the current high bid, and allows the user to place new bids on items using UnWired Buyer's interactive voice response system.
