After retiring from her job in social services, Loveland’s Sharon Salerno was looking for a way to stay involved and social with people. So she opened her own business.
Now, 15 years later, the 71-year-old is going strong as a consultant with Creative Memories, a scrapbooking line.
Through direct sales, Salerno sells products to customers — often in her or their home.

“It’s a great change of pace,” she said. “There’s a lot of freedom, and I meet a lot of wonderful people.
“And there’s no age barrier.”
Direct sales is a business style that allows people to sell products directly to consumers, away from any fixed retail location. The products often come from a parent company, such as Mary Kay or Tupperware.
