Nutrilite signs Olympic Medalist Liu Xiang as Spokesperson

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

From Quixtar:

NewCustomLeadLogo “The collaboration between Nutrilite and Liu Xiang is a world-class partnership,” says Dr. Sam Rehnborg, President of the Nutrilite Health Institute. “Just like Nutrilite, Liu Xiang continues to excel and challenge the competition. He is an ideal spokesperson to represent the true character of the Nutrilite brand. Quixtar IBOs in North America and Amway business owners around the world are looking forward to following his successes on the track, particularly in the 2008 Olympics.”

Only 23, Liu Xiang has already conquered a long list of races. He took the bronze medal in the men’s 60m hurdles at the 2003 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Champs, the first medal for China in 18 years.

Xiang then went on to win the gold in the 110m hurdles at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In July 2006 he set a new world record in the 110 meters hurdles with a time of 12.88 seconds, at the Super Grand Prix in Lausanne. Xiang was recently voted the number one most recognized athlete in China and completed 2006 as the number one ranked 110m hurdler by the IAAF.

The cooperation between Nutrilite and Liu Xiang will be comprehensive and tailored to fit Xiang’s specific athletic needs. Nutrilite, a leader in research and development on health and nutrition, will work closely with the China Track and Field Association to provide consulting services to Liu Xiang.

“I’m very excited to be a global brand spokesperson for Nutrilite,” said Xiang. “I will definitely work to deliver the Nutrilite philosophy of optimal health to every corner of the world.”

USANA Associate Jennifer Azzi Inducted Into Women's Basketball Hall of Fame

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

Usana logo From USANA Health Sciences:

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--USANA Health Sciences Associate and Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Azzi is one of six women who will be inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday. The induction ceremony will take place in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Bijou Theatre.

Along with Azzi, the Class of 2009 also includes Cynthia Cooper-Dyke, Jennifer Gillom, Sonja Hogg, Ora Washington and Jill Hutchison.

“I am truly honored by this award, but this honor isn’t just about me,” Azzi said. “If the award itself was made of Lego blocks, each person-teammates, coaches, friends and family would make up this award. I am so grateful that a sport can bring so many people together. That's what I love!”

Azzi played for Stanford University's women's basketball team and is regarded by many as one of Stanford's greatest players. While there, she helped lead the team to a 1990 NCAA National Championship, was named NCAA Player of the Year and was selected as MVP for the 1989-90 women's Final Four. Azzi was the youngest person ever inducted into Stanford's Athletic Hall of Fame. She also played professionally as a point guard for the WNBA for five seasons and won a gold medal as part of the 1996 U.S. Olympic women's team.

Outside of her basketball accomplishments, Azzi shares her unique knowledge of health, fitness and leadership as a motivational speaker. She also actively works a successful USANA enterprise with her business partner, Richelle Lund. In addition, she serves as an Athletic Advisory Council member for USANA Health Sciences. USANA's Athletic Advisory Council is dedicated to educating athletes and the public about the health-enhancing properties of nutritional supplements.

Amway Arena Network Dims

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

This just in from the Orlando Sentinel:

FOR SALE: 367,000-square-foot arena. Great location in downtown Orlando. Seats up to 18,000. Upholstered chairs. 26 antiquated skyboxes. Parking for 4,200. Air-conditioned. Asking price: $90 million. MUST SEE!

The city of Orlando has joined the scores of homeowners trying to unload property in a lousy real-estate market. Next year, like the thousands of abandoned properties all over our region, Amway Arena will go dark and begin the long, lonely wait until its eventual date with the wrecking ball.

And the credit crisis has more than tamped down the enthusiasm of developers who once yearned for the chance to snap up the old arena and re-imagine the large swath of land as a virtual clean slate in the heart of the city.

It has snuffed it out.

"The current and near-term economic reality is that you are looking at 50 to 60 acres of developable land with a pretty big price tag on it, and there aren't any developers with the pocketbook for that right now," Craig Ustler said. "Based on current demand, you cannot support a reasonable mix of education, commercial, office, residential and public uses."

Xango MLM Announces Xango Cup

By Dan Mitchell, MLM Blog Correspondent

From MLM.com:

Xango Cup LEHI, UT— June 5, 2009 — XanGo, LLC, the mangosteen beverage category creator and market leader, joined Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake (RSL) to announce today that legendary Mexican soccer Club C.F. América will face RSL July 11 at 6 p.m. MDT in the 2009 XanGo Cup. This year’s international friendly will mark the 4th annual XanGo Cup, an event that has brought world-renowned soccer clubs to Salt Lake City, including Real Madrid, Everton FC, Boca Juniors and Club Santos Laguna.

“XanGo is proud to once again team with Real Salt Lake to create a world-class event in our home state,” said XanGo Founder/Board Member Gordon Morton. “The XanGo Cup is a source of pride among XanGo’s employees and our one million independent distributors, and with Club América – Mexico’s most recognized club – visiting town, there will be special excitement at XanGo since Mexico has emerged as our largest international market outside the U.S. We hope RSL fans will fill the stadium to support our home town team and to welcome a worthy international competitor.”

Xango_logo Club América’s participation in this summer’s XanGo Cup continues a tradition of bringing world-class international soccer to Utah and fulfills a commitment made by XanGo and Real Salt Lake in 2006, when the global health and wellness company signed on as the first jersey-front sponsor in U.S. major league sports, said Morton.

“The arrival of Club América as this summer’s XanGo Cup participant continues the spectacular lineup of world-class soccer at Rio Tinto Stadium this year,” said Real Salt Lake President Bill Manning, referring to the July 29 MLS All-Star Game featuring Everton FC (England) and the U.S. Men's World Cup Qualifier on Sept. 5 vs. El Salvador. “The tradition that XanGo and RSL have grown together annually through the XanGo Cup continues the storied progression of teams that have visited Utah.”

Shaq's Big MLM Stunt With Enlyten

From Bright Side Of The Sun:

Enlytenlogo_t Shaquille O'Neal rightly considers himself a marketing master who has leveraged his on-the-court success and his own unique personality into a global brand rivalling many Fortune 100 companies.

There's no question that he's one of the most recognizable figures in the world and his online popularity as evidenced by his nearly million strong tweeple army has reached epic proportions.

It should come as no surprise then to learn that Shaq's virtually marketed diet is part of a scheme to sell something. In this case not just product but hope in the form a multi-level marketing "opportunity".

The "Shaqlyte" diet (as previously discussed here) is probably a serious attempt by the Big Fella to lose weight and become a more mobile big man in the waning days of his great career. It is also clearly part of a bigger plan to generate hype for the July 31st Las Vegas mega-launch of a new product called Enlyten which seems to consist of two things, a product and an ethically questionable business model.
