Take That Dad!

"Take that Dad!" The boy says as he smacks my XBOX Godzilla guy with the tale of his XBOX Godzilla guy. I love the competitive fire. But I feel like I might be loving it in a very Emperor/Anakin sort of way. The boy does not like to lose and that is a good thing in my opinion.

When I was 19, I coached my little sisters softball team. They won every game up to the last game of the season when I decided to let girls that might not ever get a chance to pitch again - pitch. Other girls played mostly out of position. The girls had a great time and played hard, but lost the game. I gathered the team around and began to talk to them about the importance of having fun and playing hard and started my "winning isn't everything" talk. A hand shot up and one of the girls says, "Coach, we know winning isn't everything, it's just a whole lot better than losing." I said good point and ended the post game talk.

I hope that even in our P.C. world that we don't spend more time explaining (to their kids) how "winning isn't everything" than we do helping our kids  learn what it takes to win.

Wooden Basball Mitt-esque

Last night was soccer night. My son, Tyler plays in an age 5-7 league and his team is mostly 5, while last night's team was mostly 7. The score was not pretty, but the attitude and fun level was great.

After the soccer game, a group of 11-12 year olds came into the gym for baseball practice. Since coaching Tyler's t-ball team last summer, I am always on the look out for coaching tips. I stayed after and watched the practice for a few minutes and noticed that none of the kids had mitts. They were all wearing a piece of wood with some velcro attached to it, yet they were fielding grounders as if they had a regular Rawlings glove.

It took me a few grounders before I realized that these kids were forced to use two hands by that piece of wood! What a great way to teach the kids an important fundamental.

I found a picture of a similar training mitt online (above), but I really like the home-made wooden ones.

Watch out t-ball competition...here we come.

Nick and Jessica

Although not a Work At Home Dad, he was a Work At Home Hubby. Nick did ALL of the cookin'...

Nick Lachey has filed for spousal support from Jessica Simpson, Access Hollywood has learned.

The papers were filed on Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, in response to the divorce petition filed by Jessica on December 16. Property assets and obligations have reportedly not been established yet in the proceedings.

Beta Testing a Web 2.0 Idea

I have been Beta testing a Web 2.0-ish idea related to a niche market (Network Marketing). I think I may want to go the venture capital route with this project. Anyways, shame on me for not keeping up with this blog. I know that being busy is no excuse. I will try to do better and I will keep you posted regarding the project.
